The Eagon staircase took almost six weeks to build in the suburbs of southwest Portland. It was originally designed for a spiral staircase with and inside radius of 6” and an outside radius of 48”, ascending to a 400 square foot library loft. Wanting an Arts and Craft style staircase, the homeowners wanted something more substantial in the way of a free-standing staircase with enclosed risers.

After weeks of planning, Westfire supplied the materials and enlisted John Addleman of Addleman Timber Enterprise to do the install. Stringers were glue-laminated for both the inside and outside radius using 1/8” plywood skins for the inside and 3/8” plywood for the outside radius. The stair included custom boxed newel posts with turned custom finials by Aurora Colony Woodwork in Aurora, Oregon. Handrail was custom made in Red Oak. Balusters were Leeper’s #100 S4S primed 1-1/4” with 8177B oak nosing around the stairwell opening.
