Stair Nosing
Stair nosing, tread nosing, landing tread, tread cap, nosing and cove, stari tread nosing..... All of these are the components of a traditional staircase design.
Stair nosing and tread nosing can denote the same product. The rounded edge of a stair tread is the nosing. For solid treads this is a part of the oak tread product, designed to overhang the risers by about 1-1/4” (code maximum) and trimmed below with cove mold (scotia) or base shoe.
Treads on the exposed side of a staircase can have a mitred return end. This can be shipped as a factory installed return, or the components to add on the return (8080). The 8080 tread return is available in lineal footage or as a 13” with three sides bullnosed (8080-13). The 8080 return is generally 1-1/4” wide and surfaced down to a 1-1/32” thickness.
Another type of tread nosing is the 8177 “nosing and cove”, a one unit piece of trim designed for false end treads. This item is sold per foot and is also available in an oak bending nosing and cove for radiused circumstances (8177B).
